Mot emprunté du latin. Sorte de programme qui se publie avant qu’un ouvrage paraisse et dans lequel on donne une idée de cet ouvrage, on annonce le format, le caractère, le nombre des volumes et les conditions de la souscription. Le prospectus de l’Encyclopédie.
Il se dit, dans un sens analogue, en parlant d’une Publicité par imprimé ou brochure, fait pour un établissement destiné au public. Le prospectus d’une ville d’eaux, d’une maison de santé, d’un collège.
Il se dit, par extension, de Toute annonce de publicité. Distribuer des prospectus.
